Test a site and get paid!

I love finding new websites and trying them out. Just recently I found out that you can test sites and get paid for it. I have found two sites that will pay me for my opinion. UserTesting and Userlytics. UserTesting and Userlytics are a little different but essentially the same. With both, you will create a video chalked full of your opinion about the website you are testing and about the task they want you to perform. The differences are small.

UserTesting
The sign up process is different than with Userlytics. You sign up and record a sample video and they will decide whether or not they will approve you for paid testings. The video will need to be 5-15 minutes long. Do not just follow the instructions on what you are looking for. Be very opinionated and speak what you are thinking out loud. If you feel the button you need to click is hard to find, say so. If you like the layout of the site, comment out loud. I think you get the idea. After you record the sample video you will answer some questions about the site. If they approve you, you will be able to log in and test sites. The approval process takes about 24 hours. You will need a microphone for this site.

Userlytics
You will not need to record a sample video when you sign up with Userlytics. The sign up process is quick and pretty straight forward. You will need a webcam and a microphone with this site. They want to see your face and how you react to what you are doing on the site. Just like UserTesting, you will be given a task or two to perform on the site you are site you are testing. After you record your video, you will also answer a few questions. Again, be very opinionated and think out loud. The first time I tested a site, it felt really weird talking to myself. You will get used to it and get better at it.

I would not count on this as your primary income. The amount of tests available each week may vary. One week there could be 4 and the next week there could be only 1. Also, if you do not jump on them as soon as they are available, another tester could pick it up. My advice on getting these tests is to check often, accept tests quick, be opinionated, and have fun. You will get paid $10 for every test you do. $10 for only 10 minutes of work is pretty sweet.

Here are the sites to get started:
